Course Main Dishes, Sauces/Dressings/Marinades
Cuisine Keto, Low Carb, NSNG

Ingredients

  • 1 14-ounce can of chopped tomatoes (check for no sugar on the label!)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (or 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic)
  • 5 basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Pulse canned tomatoes in food processor or Vitamix to make smooth. In saucepan on medium high heat, sautee garlic and basil in olive oil until soft, about 3 minutes. Add pureed tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring until blended. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in pat of butter and salt & pepper for seasoning. Cook additional 5 minutes. Season again to taste and then use on your pizza.

  • His may be easier, but the smell of fresh basil & garlic sauteeing in olive oil is heavenly.
    Yours is a killer recipe!
    Thanks for sharing!
ps. Are you working on a NSNG salad dressing? Please!

    • Yes, Diane!! You have put my feet to the fire, and I will make my next post a salad dressing extravaganza!

  • This is amazing! My kids don’t like to see “the green stuff” so I put it back in the Vitamix and puree it…works wonders and tastes delish! They love it!

  • HI Anna, when you say half a can of tomato paste, is it the 12 oz can or the 6 oz?

Your book recipe says 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. This one says half a 6oz can. Huge difference there. I followed the book recipe and it was a little runny. I think I will do half a can next time!

    • The book recipe is correct–I will make the change on the website recipe, thanks so much!

  • One of the comments said the sauce was a little runny. I wondered, when I was looking at the ingredients, if you are draining the juice from the can of tomatoes before you process it, or if you are using everything in the can. Thanks so much.

    • I don’t drain the juice, I puree everything in the vitamix, and it’s the perfect consistency. I’ve never had a problem with the sauce being too wet or runny, but if that’s an issue, boil it down more (an extra 10 minutes should help).
